Taking the Shot
These two girls were part of a larger pride. Just sitting around looking pretty, watching the kids, waiting for their husband to come home.

Speaking of husbands....like some of the two legged variety....the male of the pride, along with a couple of his brothers, spends most of his time away from the pride patrolling the perimeter of his territory. If he has a pride of nice females, he will be constantly fending off challenges from other males. And patrolling the perimeter, and marking it every so often, is his first line of defense. And if he has a couple of brothers to help with the marking, this is just sending a signal to any interloper lion that there is some heavy firepower in the pride and he would be wisest to stay away. Don't know how often the pee defence works.
